Farmgate Restaurant is proud to support the local artists of Nowra and the greater Shoalhaven and so thankful that we have such beautiful, talented artworks to decorate our walls. Guests enjoy the regularly changing artworks and many have bought works to enjoy in their home, office or as gifts for loved ones. Artworks change approx. 4-5 weeks. The whole price goes to the artist.

Current artists: Luise Grice
Exhibiting June-July 2026 (11th June – 28th July) RETROSPECTIVE showcases works created by Luise Grice between 2020 and 2026, primarily using graphite, ink and watercolour. The approach was straightforward: focusing on the intricate textures of the natural world, while also documenting challenging human experiences.
As an educator of visual art and graphic design, Luise holds a deep appreciation for traditional, manual techniques. By working almost exclusively in black-and-white, the distraction of colour is stripped
away to focus on pure form, shadow and line. This monochromatic approach allows for a direct and honest engagement with the subject matter. In a world increasingly driven by artificial intelligence, this tactile, human-centered process remains essential to preserving the integrity of creative thought.
The drawings of flowers were a deliberate choice to bring calm and focus. While Luise was completing a Master of Education, specialising in Digital Technologies for Learning, it became vital to remain deeply connected to manual processes. Focusing on the intricate details of petals and foliage helped balance the heavy digital demands of these studies.
In contrast, the artworks featuring weapons and the hands of men at war were part of an exhibition Luise held in 2020. The intent with those pieces was to capture close-ups of the human experience,
aiming to raise awareness of what military personnel are confronted with both during and after service.
This exhibition offers a moment to observe these two distinct paths and reflect on the importance of human presence in both art and life.
